MacBook Neo Speakers
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torx Plus 5IP 50 mm bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Important
The speakers must be replaced as a pair.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Use the black stick to lift the ends of the right speaker and left speaker flex cables off the connectors.

Note the path of the speaker flex cables along each side of the battery.

Gently lift the right speaker flex cable from the top case.

Gently lift the left speaker flex cable from the top case.

Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to remove the eight 5IP screws (923-14181) from the speakers.

Lift the right speaker out of the top case.

Lift the left speaker out of the top case.

Reassembly
Position the left speaker in the top case.

Position the right speaker in the top case.

Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. While gently pushing the right speaker against the side of the top case as shown, use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to reinstall four 5IP screws (923-14181) into the right speaker.


While gently pushing the left speaker against the side of the top case as shown, use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to reinstall four 5IP screws (923-14181) into the left speaker.


Press the end of the right speaker flex cable to the connector.

Press the end of the left speaker flex cable to the connector.

Use the flat end of the black stick to route the right speaker flex cable between the top case and battery foam as shown.

Use the flat end of the black stick to route the left speaker flex cable between the top case and battery foam as shown.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
