MacBook Pro (16-inch, M5 Pro or M5 Max) Lid Angle Sensor

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Important

  • If you replace this part, it’s recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.

  • Before beginning the repair on MacBook Pro (16-inch, M5 Pro or M5 Max), ensure that the device is running macOS 15.3 or later.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • PL1.1 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-13444) from the lid angle sensor connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

  2. Lift the end of the lid angle sensor flex cable off the connector.

  3. Use the blue torque driver and PL1.1 bit to remove the PL1.1 screw (923-13443) from the lid angle sensor flex cable clip.

  4. Remove the lid angle sensor from the top case.

Reassembly

  1. Position the clip on the lid angle sensor flex cable so the slot and screw hole on the clip are aligned with the pin and screw hole on the display hinge.

  2. Use the blue torque driver and the PL1.1 bit to reinstall the PL1.1 screw (923-13443) into the lid angle sensor flex cable clip.

  3. Press the end of the lid angle sensor flex cable to the connector.

  4. Position the lid angle sensor connector cowling over the end of the lid angle sensor flex cable. Then use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-13444) into the lid angle sensor connector cowling.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
