About activities in Classwork
Activities are the tasks your teacher sends to you as part of an assignment. For example, your teacher might send you and your entire class an assignment with instructions to watch an attached movie, submit an essay or complete a task in an app that provides student progress.
You submit your work in response to an activity your teacher sends in an assignment. You can submit work within Classwork or you can use the Share button to submit from another app. You can mark an app activity complete and submit items such as collaborative files, spreadsheets, PDFs, photos, videos or scanned documents. For example, in Keynote for iPadOS, you can create a file, tap the More button, tap the Share button, tap Classwork, then select your class and assignment to submit the file.
When your teacher shares a collaborative file in an assignment, you and your teacher can work in the same file at the same time. Depending on the kind of file, your teacher can view and edit the file while you are working on it, and add comments to provide real-time feedback and guide you along the way. When your teacher shares a non-collaborative file, your teachers and you can work in the same file but not at the same time. For example, your teacher can mark up a PDF file and you will see their comments later.
When completing activities and submitting work, keep the following in mind:
After you submit all activities for an assignment, Classwork moves the assignment from your Due Next and Due views to your Done views.
If you complete an activity or submit work after an assignment deadline (11:59 p.m. local time on the due date), Classwork displays your progress data but indicates the work was late.
When an assignment is complete, Classwork moves the assignment from your Due Next and Due views to your Done views. For completed assignments, progress reporting stops and you can’t submit work, replace work or make any more changes to activities associated with the assignment. Classwork saves copies of your work in iCloud Drive, but your teacher can’t view any updates. When you view a completed assignment, you can see all progress data up until the completion date.
When editing a shared non-iWork file, confirm all your changes are saved. iCloud Drive might overwrite changes if another student or teacher edits the file while you’re editing the same file.
Note: You need an Internet connection to submit work to a hand-in activity. If your internet connection is interrupted, you can continue working but can’t submit your work. Once a connection is re-established, you can submit your work to the hand-in activity.
