Change Power Adapter preferences on a Mac notebook
Use Battery System Preferences to set options that control your computer’s power adapter and energy use.
Note: Some of the options may not be available, depending on your Mac.
To open these preferences, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Battery , then click Power Adapter.
Open the Power Adapter pane for me
Option | Description |
---|---|
Turn display off after | Set the amount of time your computer or display should wait before going to sleep while plugged into a power adapter. |
Prevent your Mac from sleeping automatically when the display is off | Keep the computer from going to sleep when the display sleeps. |
Put hard disks to sleep when possible | Put the hard drive to sleep whenever the computer is inactive. |
Wake for network access | Even in sleep mode, wake your Mac to provide access to shared resources, such as shared printers or Music playlists. |
Enable Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter | Have your Mac back up with Time Machine, and check for email, calendar and other iCloud updates while in sleep mode and plugged in. |
Automatic graphics switching | To optimise the life of your battery, have your Mac automatically choose the best graphics mode based on your usage. |
Low power mode | Reduce energy usage to increase battery life. |
Energy Mode | Choose which energy mode you want your Mac to use.
