Requirements for automatically adding devices
The following conditions must be met to automatically add devices to Apple Business Manager:
If the device was purchased directly from Apple, the purchaser must have used an enrolled and verified Apple Customer Number.
If the device was purchased directly from a participating Apple Authorised Reseller or an authorised network provider the device must be linked to that reseller’s Reseller Number. The actual date of eligibility is determined by the participating Apple Authorised Reseller or authorised network provider sales history. The Reseller Number must be added to your organisation’s list of approved suppliers.
The device must have been ordered after March 1, 2011, whether it was purchased directly from Apple, from a participating Apple Authorised Reseller or an authorised network provider.
Requirements for manually adding devices
You can manually add add iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV devices to Apple Business Manager using Apple Configurator, even if the devices weren’t purchased directly from Apple, an Apple Authorised Reseller or an authorised network provider.
Updated terms and conditions
When terms and conditions are updated, a user with the role of Administrator must sign in and accept them. Until the updated terms and conditions are accepted, most of the functionality in Apple Business Manager is blocked. See the Apple Support article If Apple Business Manager, Apple Business Essentials or Apple School Manager asks you to approve new terms and conditions.
Important: If you’re unable to accept the terms and conditions, contact an Apple Business Manager administrator immediately. Before full functionality is available, an administrator must sign in to Apple Business Manager and accept the new terms and conditions.
Initial administrator account
Use the name of a person when setting up the user account, not the name of a role or group. This is known as an administrator account. After your enrolment is approved, you can give up to four managers the role of Administrator. This user (initial administrator) must agree to the program and software licence agreements, which are periodically updated.
The following information is required:
first and last name of the individual enrolling on behalf of the organisation
Note: This must be the name of a real person. First and last names such as “IT Coordinator” or “iPad Deployment” will be returned to you to correct the information.
A work email address
work phone number
role/job title
Initial administrator account email address requirements
The email address you use for your initial administrator account must meet certain specific requirements, which are as follows.
Hasn’t been used as an Apple ID for any other Apple service or website
Isn’t associated with an App Store or iCloud account
Can be from a public email provider
If you don’t own a custom domain name, you can use a public email provider for the Managed Apple ID for this user account. All subsequent Managed Apple IDs must use the reserved domain, which is automatically set up after a successful enrolment. See Reserved domains.
Can’t be from a domain that’s already been verified by another Apple Business Manager organisation
For example, if another organisation has verified theacmeinc.com.au, the initial administrator user account for your organisation can’t contain theacmeinc.com.au.
Important: Don’t use this new administrator Managed Apple ID with an App Store or iCloud account, or any other Apple services or website other than Apple Business Manager.
Verification contact
Your verification contact – usually a legal representative of your organisation – verifies that you have the authority to sign and bind your organisation to the terms and conditions of Apple Business Manager. The information given for this contact can’t be the same as for the individual submitting the enrolment. Apple reaches out to the verification contact during enrolment to verify information about the initial administrator user account and the organisation.
Note: During the review process, AppleCare may reach out during enrolment to verify your submitted information. Make sure that any filters allow mail from all apple.com domains. Return any missed phone calls quickly so the review process can proceed smoothly.
