About service provider-provided satellite features on iPhone
There are multiple ways to stay connected on iPhone while you're off-grid with no traditional mobile or Wi-Fi coverage.
Satellite features on iPhone
With iPhone 14 or later (any model), Apple provides satellite features, in partnership with Globalstar1, to help you text the emergency services, request roadside assistance, message friends and family, and share your location.

Additionally, some service providers have enhanced their mobile network with satellites enabled by partnerships they have established with satellite providers, such as Starlink.
Use service provider-provided satellite features
Before you go off-grid, check that your iPhone can benefit from service provider-provided satellite features. You'll need:
iPhone 13 and later (any model)
The latest version of iOS
Some service providers might require a supported mobile plan
When your iPhone is using a service provider-provided satellite feature, iPhone will display "SAT" in the status bar.
In addition to messaging, some service providers may allow limited data on selected apps while connected to a service provider-provided satellite network. Service provider fees and data rates may apply.

Use Apple satellite features
Even if your service provider network offers satellite features, you can still use Apple satellite features on iPhone 14 or later in selected regions when you are outside traditional mobile and Wi-Fi coverage. You can connect with Apple satellite features through the Connection Assistant. Or, dial or text emergency services when you're off the grid.

Turn off service provider-provided satellite features
Open the Settings app.
Mobile, then tap Mobile Data Options. If you have multiple SIMs, instead tap your service provider or phone number.
Tap Satellite, then turn it off.
If the Satellite option doesn't appear, your service provider may not offer or support satellite features and your iPhone won't use any service provider-provided satellite features. If your service provider allows limited data on selected apps, you may also be able to turn off satellite data for those apps. Contact your service provider for more information.
During certain disaster situations, your service provider may provide mobile connectivity to iPhone models by using the service provider's satellite capabilities, even if you've turned them off for everyday use and "SAT" doesn't appear in the status bar.
