Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling

If you have a Wi-Fi connection in an area with little or no cellular coverage, use Wi-Fi Calling to make or receive a voice phone call.

Turn on Wi-Fi Calling

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Cellular.

  3. If your iPhone has multiple SIMs, scroll to the line you want to use with Wi-Fi Calling.

  4. Tap Wi-Fi Calling and turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This Phone.

  5. Tap Enable. You may need to enter or confirm your address for the emergency services.

If Wi-Fi Calling is available, you’ll see "Wi-Fi" in the status bar while viewing Control Centre. Then your calls will use Wi-Fi Calling.

When mobile service is available, your iPhone will use it for emergency calls. If you turn on Wi-Fi Calling and mobile service isn’t available, emergency calls may use Wi-Fi Calling. Your device's location may be used to aid response efforts when you place an emergency call, regardless of whether you enable Location Services.

Add a device to use it with Wi-Fi Calling

  1. Make sure the device you want to add has the latest version of its software.

  2. On your original device, open the Settings app and tap Cellular.

  3. If your iPhone has multiple SIMs, tap the line you want to use for Wi-Fi Calling.

  4. Tap Wi-Fi Calling and turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

  5. Go back to the previous screen, then tap Calls on Other Devices.

  6. If it's not on, turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices. A list of your eligible devices will appear under Allow Calls On.

  7. Turn on each device you want to use with Wi-Fi Calling.

Make sure your other devices will accept calls from your iPhone:

  • On your iPad, go to Settings, select Apps, then FaceTime. Then turn on Calls from iPhone.

  • On your Mac, open the FaceTime app and choose FaceTime, then Settings (or Preferences). Then turn on Calls from iPhone.

Wi-Fi Calling is enabled automatically for Apple Watch when you turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.

If you can't add a device:

  • On your iPhone, make sure Wi-Fi Calling and Allow Calls on Other Devices are turned on, and that your device appears under Allow Calls On.

  • Make sure that you’re using the same Apple Account for FaceTime and iCloud on your iPhone and your other device.

Make and receive Wi-Fi calls from another device

If your network provider supports Wi-Fi Calling on iCloud-connected devices, you can also make and receive Wi-Fi calls on other devices.

Make sure that you’re signed in to iCloud and FaceTime with the same Apple Account that you use on your iPhone. Also, make sure your devices have the latest software.

Call from your iPad

  1. If you haven’t yet, add your device to use with Wi-Fi Calling.

  2. Open the FaceTime app.

  3. Tap New FaceTime, enter a contact or phone number, then tap the contact or phone number.

  4. Tap the Audio Call button.

You can also place a call by tapping a phone number in Contacts, Mail, Messages, Safari and other apps.

Call from your Mac

  1. Open the FaceTime app.

  2. Choose FaceTime and then Settings (or Preferences).

  3. Turn on Calls from iPhone.

  4. Make and receive phone calls in FaceTime.

Call from your Apple Watch

  1. In the Phone app, choose a contact.

  2. Tap the Call button.

  3. Select the phone number or email address you want to call.

Remove a device from Wi-Fi Calling

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Cellular. If your iPhone has multiple SIMs, tap the line you want to remove from Wi-Fi Calling.

  3. Tap Calls on Other Devices.

  4. In the list of devices, turn off Wi-Fi Calling for the device you want to remove.

If Wi-Fi Calling isn't working

If you can't turn on or use Wi-Fi Calling, verify your carrier offers Wi-Fi Calling and your devices have the latest software.

If you're unable to turn on or use Wi-Fi Calling, your device software is up to date, and your network provider supports Wi-Fi Calling, contact your carrier.

If you’ve contacted your network provider and can’t turn on Wi-Fi Calling or make a Wi-Fi call, follow these steps. Wait 2 minutes before moving on from one step to the next.

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Cellular. If your iPhone has multiple SIMs, tap the line you want to use for Wi-Fi Calling.

  3. Tap Wi-Fi Calling and make sure Wi-Fi Calling is on.

  4. Restart your iPhone.

  5. Connect to a different Wi-Fi network. Not all Wi-Fi networks work with Wi-Fi Calling.

  6. Turn Wi-Fi Calling off and then on again.

  7. Go back to Settings and tap General.

  8. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone, then tap Reset.

  9. Tap Reset Network Settings.

FaceTime isn’t available in all countries or regions.
