Create grocery lists in Reminders on your iPhone

In iOS 17 and later, you can choose Groceries as a list type in Reminders. As you add items, Reminders will automatically sort them into categories to make it easier to shop.

Create a Groceries list in Reminders

To use Groceries lists, you need to turn on iCloud for Reminders. Set up iCloud for Reminders on all of your devices

1. In the Reminders app, tap Add List. Choose the account you want to use, if necessary.

On the lists page in Reminders, tap Add List to create a new one.

2. Customise your list with a name and icon, then tap List Type.

3. Tap Groceries.

In iOS 17 and later, you can choose “Groceries” as a list type in Reminders.

4. Tap Done.

As you add items to the list, Reminders will automatically categorise and reorder them by Groceries type — such as Produce, Meat or Frozen Foods.

With a Groceries list in Reminders, items are automatically categorised as you add them.

Customise your Groceries list

You can quickly move an item to another category if you don’t like where Reminders has automatically placed it. Tap and hold the item, then drag it to another category. When you manually categorise a grocery item, your Groceries list will remember your preference the next time you add that item.

If you can’t see the section you’re looking for, try tapping the info button on the item that you want to recategorise:

1. Tap the Info button.

2. Scroll and tap Section.

If Reminders doesn’t categorise a Groceries item correctly at the first attempt, you can manually choose a section.

3. Choose a section for the item. If you can’t see the right section, tap New Section with Selection and enter a custom one.

4. Tap Done.

To rename a Section, tap the word in your Reminders list to edit it.
