Send and accept a friend request in Game Center

Find out how to find your friends, accept requests, report users and more in Game Center.

Before you get started

Make sure you update to the most recent version of the software.

Find your friends in Game Center to share your achievements, high scores and more.

On your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings, scroll to Game Center, then tap it.

  2. Tap Invite Friends.

  3. Search for the person you want to invite or look through the list of suggestions.

  4. Tap Invite next to the person’s name.

    On an iPhone, the list of people someone can invite is showing. In the bottom left-hand corner of their photo, they have a Messages icon. To the left, it says “Invite”.
  5. Game Center will send an invitation notification to their devices. If they have the Messages iconnull next to their photo, they’re on a previous version of the software and you can send them an invitation in Messages.

On your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Game Center.

  2. Click Invite Friends.

  3. Search for the person you want to invite or look through the list of suggestions.

  4. Click Invite next to the person’s name.

  5. Game Center will send an invitation notification to their devices. If they have the Messages iconnull next to their photo, they’re on a previous version of the software and you can send them an invitation in Messages.

Accept a friend request

To accept a notification invitation, tap or click it, then select Accept. If you tap or click Ignore, the notification will disappear and the user who sent it won’t be alerted that you ignored it.

Find your requests

If you’ve missed a notification, you can find it later on your devices with iOS 18.1 or later, iPadOS 18.1 or later and macOS 15.1 or later.

On your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings, scroll to Game Center, then tap it.

  2. Tap Friend Requests.

  3. Find the request and tap Accept.

On your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Game Center.

  2. Click Friend Requests.

  3. Find the request and click Accept.

Remove friends or report Game Center users

On your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings. Scroll to Game Center, then tap it.

  2. Tap All Friends to see a list of users who you’re friends with and who you’ve recently played with.

  3. Tap the user you’d like to remove or report, then tap the More buttonnull.

  4. Tap Remove Friend to stop being friends with someone in Game Center. This will remove you from their list of friends as well. To report a profile for cheating, inappropriate content or another issue, tap Report User and follow the onscreen instructions.

On your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Game Center.

  2. Click All Friends to see a list of users who you’re friends with and who you’ve recently played with.

  3. Select the user you’d like to remove or report, then click View.

  4. On the user’s profile, click the More buttonnull.

    On a Mac, a user’s Game Center profile is open. The More menu in the top right-hand corner has been opened and the two options are Report User and Remove Friend.
  5. Click Remove Friend to stop being friends with someone in Game Center. This will remove you from their list of friends as well. To report a profile for cheating, inappropriate content or another issue, click Report User and follow the onscreen instructions.
