Change the name of a Bluetooth accessory

The name of your connected Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, trackpad, games controller or other accessory will appear in Bluetooth settings and menus on your Apple device. To personalise that name or remove personal information from it, you can rename it.

If you can’t rename a Bluetooth accessory

  • Make sure Bluetooth settings on your device shows the accessory as currently connected.

  • Make sure the accessory is only connected to your device via Bluetooth, not via a USB cable or wireless dongle, even if the accessory appears in Bluetooth settings.

  • Unpair (forget) the accessory as described in the Bluetooth articles linked above. If the accessory has a custom name, this may restore its default name.

  • If the accessory has removable batteries, remove them and wait a few minutes to allow any residual charge to dissipate. If the accessory has a custom name, this may restore its default name.

  • If the accessory was designed to be configured using a companion app from the manufacturer, check that app for a way to rename or reset the accessory.

  • If a firmware update for the accessory is available from the manufacturer, install the update.

  • If you still can’t rename the accessory, or you can rename it but the name doesn’t persist, the accessory may not support custom names on your Apple device.
