Play movies on Apple TV from iTunes on Mac
If you have an Apple TV, you can use it to watch movies from your computer on your TV. You might need to convert some movies to work with Apple TV. Any video that plays on iPod, iPhone, or iPad is compatible with Apple TV.
If you edit movies in iMovie, you can save the movies directly to your iTunes library.
Convert a movie to work with Apple TV
In the iTunes app
on your Mac, choose Movies from the pop-up menu at the top left, then click Library.
Select the movie, then choose File > Convert > Create iPad or Apple TV Version.
Save a movie in iMovie to work with Apple TV
In the iMovie app on your Mac, choose File > Share > iTunes.
Select the options you want.
Click Share.

Converting a movie for Apple TV can take from several minutes to several hours, depending on your computer and on the length and content of the movie.
The original movie file remains in your iTunes library.
