Erase a Mac remotely in Fleetsmith
In the event that a device is permanently lost or stolen, a Fully Managed Mac can be remotely erased.
Important: After you issue the Erase Device command, all content and settings are erased when the device connects to the internet. It’s no longer managed by Fleetsmith and is moved to Archived devices.
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, then click the name of the Mac.
On the left side, click Erase, then follow the prompts to erase the Mac.
The status changes to Pending Erase on the Mac computer’s details page.
After you issue the Erase Device command, you need a PIN to unlock it. You can retrieve the PIN in the Fleetsmith Admin Console on a device’s Overview page. See Retrieve a Mac computer’s Erase Device PIN in Fleetsmith.
After the erase is complete and the PIN has been entered, a black screen appears, showing a symbol of a circle with a line through it. You can now reinstall macOS using the macOS Recovery partition.
Important: If the Mac has an Apple T2 Security Chip and is running macOS 10.15 or later, the Erase Device command won’t send a lock; the device will be erased, no lock pin is issued.
