Importance of service by trained technicians using genuine Apple batteries
If you need to replace your iPhone battery, it's important to get a repair by certified technicians who use genuine Apple batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive components and should be manufactured and serviced with care.
Battery replacements should be performed only by technicians who have completed Apple service training and who use Apple genuine parts and tools. These service providers include Apple Authorized Service Providers, or Independent Repair Providers using genuine Apple parts. Don't attempt to replace the iPhone battery yourself. Replacements performed by untrained technicians might not follow proper safety and repair procedures and could result in improper replacement or repair. This could also damage the battery, cause overheating, or result in injury.
Depending on your location, you can get your iPhone battery replaced—in or out of warranty—by visiting an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or by shipping your iPhone to an Apple Repair Center. Independent Repair Providers* also offer genuine parts by trained technicians for out-of-warranty battery replacements.
Additionally, if a service provider uses nongenuine battery parts, the replacement battery might be:
- Poorly designed or manufactured
- A previously used battery
- A damaged battery
- An incorrect battery for your iPhone model
Any of the above could lead to insufficient battery capacity, improper fit, or performance issues. Using nongenuine batteries might also result in unexpected behavior after installation, device software updates, or while charging. Using nongenuine batteries might also lead to safety issues.
Genuine batteries are designed to work with iOS to function properly, including to report charge levels and battery health. Therefore, nongenuine batteries or repairs won't have the ability to obtain battery health information.

If you see this message, the battery in your iPhone cannot be verified, and reported battery health information isn't available. This might be due to the installation of a battery that is not a new, genuine battery. This message applies to iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and later.

You might see an additional notification that says, "Apple has updated the device information for this iPhone." This means that Apple has updated the device information maintained for this iPhone for service needs, safety analysis, and to improve future products.
These notifications donʼt affect your ability to use your iPhone or your battery.
You will see a notification on your lock screen for the first 4 days that you use your device, and in the Settings app for 15 days. After that period, you can find the notification by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
