iPhone 16 Main Microphone

Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  1. Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm) (923-00105)

  2. Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm) (923-02995)

  3. Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm) (923-00738)

  4. Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm) (923-08131)

  5. Micro stix bit (923-01290)

  6. JCIS bit (923-0246)

  7. Super screw bit fixed driver (923-02066)

  8. Super screw bit for adjustable driver (923-09962)

  9. ESD-safe tweezers

  10. Nylon probe (black stick) (922-5065)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

  1. Use a torque driver and the fixed driver super screw bit to remove the two super screws from the main microphone. Set aside the screws.

  2. Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the crosshead screw. Set aside the screw.

  3. Use a torque driver and the Micro stix bit to remove the trilobe screw. Set aside the screw.

  4. Lift the end of the main microphone flex cable off the connector. Remove the main microphone from the enclosure.

    • Important: The main microphone is held in place by strong adhesive. Pull the main microphone toward the top of the enclosure until the microphone separates from the adhesive.

Reassembly

  1. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove all adhesive from the enclosure. Use an ethanol or IPA wipe to clean the enclosure.

  2. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the protective liner from the adhesive on the main microphone. Then position the main microphone in the enclosure by aligning the screw holes.

  3. Use the orange torque driver and fixed driver super screw bit to partially install one new super screw (923-11188) (1).

  4. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver super screw bit to partially install the other new super screw (923-11707) (2) into the main microphone.

  5. Use the gray torque driver and JCIS bit to partially install one new crosshead screw (923-11194).

  6. Use the green torque driver and Micro stix bit to partially install one new trilobe screw (923-11712).

  7. Press and hold the top of the main microphone for 15 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.

  8. Use the orange torque driver and fixed driver super screw bit to fully install one new super screw (1).

  9. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver super screw bit to fully install one new super screw (2).

  10. Use the gray torque driver and JCIS bit to fully install the new crosshead screw.

  11. Use the green torque driver and Micro stix bit to fully install the new trilobe screw.

  12. Press the end of the main microphone flex cable to the connector.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
