Use Shazam on Android devices

Use Shazam to identify what you're hearing on the radio, in a store, on your device (with or without headphones), or anywhere else you hear recorded music.

Find your previous Shazams in the Library, where you can preview songs to discover new music. And create a Shazam account to save all your Shazams in case something happens to your device.

Identify music with Shazam

To identify music with Shazam:

  • Open the Shazam app on your device, then tap the Shazam buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

  • Touch and hold the Shazam app in the app drawer, then tap Shazam Now.

When Shazam identifies the song, it’s saved to your Shazam Library.

After you identify a song, you can connect to Apple Music and other music services to listen to your Shazam.

If you don’t have an internet connection, the app still creates a unique digital fingerprint to match against the Shazam database the next time your device is connected to the internet. If a song can’t be identified, it will disappear from your pending Shazams.

Use Auto Shazam

To have Shazam automatically identify what’s playing around you, turn on Auto Shazam:

  • Touch and hold the Shazam app in the app drawer, then tap Auto Shazam.

  • Open the Shazam app on your device, then touch and hold the Shazam buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

When Auto Shazam is on, Shazam matches what you’re hearing with songs in the Shazam database — even when you switch to another app. Shazam never saves or stores what it hears.

You can then find the Shazams identified with Auto Shazam in your Library, grouped together by date.

To turn off Auto Shazam, tap the Shazam button.

Use Notification to identify music with a swipe and tap

While you’re in another app, you can access Shazam in the notification bar to identify music:

  1. Swipe down to see Shazam in the notification bar.

  2. Tap Shazam to start identifying music.

  3. To close the notification, swipe to the Library in the Shazam app, tap the Settings buttonNo alt supplied for Image, then turn off “Shazam from notification bar.”

Use Pop-Up Shazam to identify music

  1. Open the Shazam app, swipe to the Library, then tap the Settings buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

  2. Turn on “Shazam from Pop-Up,” tap Go To Settings, tap Shazam, then turn on “Allow display over other apps.”

  3. While you’re in another app, tap the Pop-Up Shazam buttonNo alt supplied for Image to identify music playing in that app.

  4. To remove the floating button, drag it to the X at the bottom of the screen.

To bring Pop-Up Shazam back on-screen, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap on the notification. If you don’t have "Shazam from notification bar” enabled, open the Shazam app and Shazam a song. While Shazam is identifying a song, put Shazam in the background. You’ll see the Pop-up button reappear on screen.
