What to do before you sell or give away your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD

To prepare your Apple TV for a new owner, use these steps reset it to factory settings and remove it from your associated devices.

Follow these steps to remove all of your personal information from your Apple TV and restore it to factory settings. After you reset your Apple TV, learn how to remove it from your associated devices list so that you can make room for new devices.

  1. On your Apple TV, go to Settings > System > Reset.

  2. Choose a reset option:

    • Reset: This option is the fastest way to return your Apple TV to factory settings. This option doesn't require an internet connection.

    • Reset and Update: This option returns your Apple TV to its factory settings and installs software updates. This option requires an internet connection.

  3. Keep your Apple TV plugged into power until the Reset process finishes. After reset, all of your content, settings, and personal information will be erased.

  4. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings.

  5. Tap your name.

  6. Scroll down and tap the Apple TV that you're selling or giving away.

  7. Tap Remove from Account.
