Create composites using blend modes in Final Cut Pro for iPad
You can connect a clip to a clip in the timeline and then use a blend mode to combine the two images into a composite image. A blend mode determines how the pixels of the connected clip are blended with the pixels of the clip below it in the timeline. You can choose from many different blend modes to get the look you want.
The following example shows two clips combined with the Lighten blend mode, which compares the pixels in each image and uses the lightest pixel from each image.

Go to the Final Cut Pro app
on your iPad.
Open a project.
In the timeline, drag the playhead over the clip you want to use as the background image in the composite.
In the browser, tap a video clip or content clip that you want to composite with the background image.
Tap
in the Edit Mode control below the browser, tap Connect at Playhead, then tap the Connect button.
The new clip is attached as a connected clip to the underlying clip.
In the timeline, tap the connected clip, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the result of your adjustments in the viewer).
Tap Inspect in the lower-left corner of the screen, tap
at the top of the inspector, then do any of the following:
Adjust the opacity of the connected clip: Drag the Opacity slider, or tap the number field next to Opacity and use the keypad to enter a new opacity value.
Change the way the connected clip blends with the underlying clip: Tap
next to Blend Mode, then tap an option.
There are many blend modes to choose from—the correct one to use depends on the video content and the look you’re aiming for.
The blend modes in Final Cut Pro for iPad are identical to those in the Final Cut Pro and Motion apps on Mac. For detailed information about blend modes, see Intro to blend modes and Types of blend modes in the Final Cut Pro User Guide for Mac.
