OS X Yosemite
In OS X Yosemite, removing or disabling the font that Preview is using for markup might cause Preview to quit when opening documents. If you've made such a change to your document, use any of these solutions:
- Upgrade to OS X El Capitan or later.
- Or put the font back. Afterward, you can open Preview and change the markup font: Choose View > Show Markup Toolbar, click the Text Style button , then choose a different font from the pop-up menu. You can now safely remove or disable the previous markup font.
- Or use Terminal to resolve the issue: Quit Preview, then open Terminal, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder. Paste this command in Terminal, then press Return:
defaults delete ~/Library/Group\ Containers/com.apple.Preview/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist com.apple.AnnotationKit.font
All macOS versions
If none of the above solutions work in OS X Yosemite, or if you're not using Yosemite, your document might be damaged. If you have a Time Machine backup, try using Time Machine to restore a previous version of the file.
