iPhone 16 Taptic Engine

Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  1. Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm) (923-08131)

  2. Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm) (923-02995)

  3. JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver (923-09177)

  4. JCIS bit for fixed driver (923-0246)

  5. ESD-safe tweezers

  6. Nylon probe (black stick) (922-5065)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

iPhone 16 Taptic Engine

Removal

  1. Use a torque driver and the fixed driver JCIS bit to remove the two crosshead screws from the Taptic Engine connector cowling and two crosshead screws from the Taptic Engine. Set aside the screws. Remove the Taptic Engine connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

    •  Caution: Don’t damage the grounding spring on the cowling.

  2. Lift the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable off the connector. Remove the Taptic Engine from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. Position the Taptic Engine in the enclosure.

  2. Press the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable to the connector.

  3. Position the Taptic Engine connector cowling over the end of the flex cable.

  4. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-11717) into the Taptic Engine.

  5. Use the orange torque driver and fixed driver JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-11202) into the Taptic Engine connector cowling and one new crosshead screw (923-11716) into the Taptic Engine.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
