If you service or replace a device enrolled in Apple School Manager or Apple Business

Learn how servicing or replacing devices and computers works with Apple School Manager or Apple Business.

This article is intended for system administrators. For details about managing repairs with AppleCare+ for Business, use the Apple Business user guide.

Prepare your device for service

Before you send in or bring in your device for service, unassign it from your device management service in Apple School Manager or unassign it from your device management service in Apple Business. If you don't unassign the device, it might be returned to you without being repaired or replaced. You can reassign a device to your device management service after it has been repaired.

Activation Lock must also be turned off prior to submitting a repair request. For devices enrolled in Apple School Manager or Apple Business, follow these steps in the appropriate user guide:

Reassign your device after replacement

If Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider replaces an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, Apple Watch, or Apple Vision Pro enrolled in Apple School Manager or Apple Business, the replacement will usually appear in Apple School Manager or Apple Business within 2 hours. You can then assign the replacement to your device management service.
