Change Advanced preferences in iTunes on Mac
In the iTunes app on your Mac, use the Advanced pane in iTunes preferences to set and organise your iTunes Media folder, choose how to show Mini Player and film windows, and more.
To change these preferences, choose iTunes > Preferences, then click Advanced.
iTunes Media folder location | To change where songs and other files you import into iTunes are located, click Change. To change back to the original location for files (Home/Music/iTunes), click Reset.
Keep iTunes Media folder organised | Automatically put imported music into folders for album and artist.
Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library | Copy an item to the iTunes Media folder when you drag the item to the iTunes window or choose File > Add to Library. If you want items to appear in iTunes but also remain in their original location, deselect this tickbox. For example, you can keep music imported from CDs on your computer and save your video files on an external storage device. Pressing the Option key while dragging temporarily reverses the current tickbox setting.
Automatically delete watched films and TV programmes | Free up space on your computer or external storage device by storing your watched films and TV programmes in iCloud, making them available on demand (macOS 10.12 or later).
Share iTunes Library XML with other applications | Allow other applications to access your iTunes library.
Reset all dialogue warnings | If you selected “Do not show this message again” in one or more dialogues (small windows with messages in them), clicking “Reset warnings” makes the messages appear again.
Reset iTunes Store cache | iTunes saves the store pages you visit on your computer in a temporary location called the cache. If you return later, iTunes can retrieve the page from the cache faster than getting it from the Internet. If the content on a page seems outdated, you can reset the cache to retrieve the latest version. If you think a page isn’t opening properly, resetting the cache may help.
Reset podcast identifier | If the content in Podcasts seems outdated, reset the podcast identifier to retrieve the latest version.
Keep Mini Player on top of all other windows | Keep Mini Player in front of all open windows, even while you use applications other than iTunes.
Keep film window on top of all other windows | When playing a film in a separate window, keep the film window in front of all open windows, even while you use applications other than iTunes. |
