Use Siri with AirPods
When AirPods are connected to iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch, you can use Siri to find information, play music, accept or decline incoming phone and FaceTime calls, announce notifications from apps, and more.
If Announce Calls and Announce Notifications are turned on, you can also use head gestures on AirPods 4 (both models) or AirPods Pro 2 to privately respond to Siri without speaking. For example, nod your head to answer a call, or shake your head to dismiss a notification. See Use controls and gestures with your AirPods.
Set up Siri on your device
iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri) > Talk to Siri, then select “Siri” or “Hey Siri.”
Apple Watch: Go to Settings > Siri, then turn on Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri.”
Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri) in the sidebar, turn on Ask Siri, then turn on Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri.” (You may need to scroll down.)
If you have AirPods 4 (both models) or AirPods Pro 2, you can use “Hey Siri” or “Siri” to activate Siri. Other AirPods models require “Hey Siri” to activate Siri.
Use Siri to announce calls or notifications
You can allow Siri to announce incoming calls with supported headphones. Time-sensitive notifications are also announced automatically when you’re wearing your AirPods and they’re paired with your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. You can choose which apps to receive notifications from and how frequently you receive them.
iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri) > Announce Calls or Announce Notifications, then choose the settings you want.
For example, choose Headphones Only or turn on Headphones if you only want Siri to announce calls or notifications while you’re wearing your AirPods.
Apple Watch: Go to Settings > Siri, then turn on Announce Calls or tap Announce Notifications to adjust settings.
You can limit notifications when you need to concentrate. See Set up a Focus in the iPhone User Guide.
