Create and edit classes for Schoolwork

You can create and edit classes for Schoolwork in Apple School Manager, or you can create them in Schoolwork.

Apple School Manager automatically creates classes when you connect your Student Information System (SIS) or upload content using SFTP. These classes automatically appear in Schoolwork. For classes not in your SIS or SFTP upload, like an after-school club, you can manually create a class in Apple School Manager or Schoolwork.

Edit classes

You can edit the class name and class roster for manually created classes in either Apple School Manager or Schoolwork.

For classes automatically created from your SIS or SFTP upload, you can edit the class name, but not the class roster. Schoolwork will display the class name that is derived from the Course Name and Class Number fields defined in SIS or SFTP upload. You can add a class Nickname in Apple School Manager that will be displayed in Schoolwork. When you edit the name of a class in Schoolwork, this updates the class Nickname in Apple School Manager.

Delete classes

If a class that is used for Schoolwork is deleted in your SIS or SFTP upload, it will be converted to a manual class in Apple School Manager. This lets teachers preserve or reuse their existing Handouts in new classes.

You can delete manual classes in either Apple School Manager or Schoolwork.

If you delete a class that was previously used with Schoolwork, all Handouts and data will be deleted.

If a class doesn't appear in Schoolwork

If you don't see the right classes in Schoolwork, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that the classes appear in Apple School Manager.

  2. Go to Settings on your iPad.

  3. Make sure that you are signed in with the correct Managed Apple ID.

The Schoolwork app is named Classwork in Australia and New Zealand.
