If your left or right AirPod isn't working

Learn what to do if there's no sound in one AirPod, or if one AirPod is louder or quieter than the other.

If there's no sound in one AirPod

  1. Make sure that your charging case is fully charged. If your case isn't charging, try these steps.

  2. Place both AirPods in your charging case and let them charge for 30 seconds.

  3. Open the charging case near your iPhone or iPad.

  4. Check the charge status on your iPhone or iPad to make sure that each AirPod is charging.

  5. Put the AirPod that isn't working in the appropriate ear.

  6. With the other AirPod still in the charging case, close the lid of the case.

  7. Play audio to test the malfunctioning AirPod.

  8. Depending on what happens:

    • If the malfunctioning AirPod plays sound, place both AirPods in the charging case, let them charge for 30 seconds, open the charging case near your iPhone or iPad, and test to see if both are now working properly.

    • If an AirPod still isn't working, reset your AirPods. If you just replaced an AirPod, set up your replacement AirPod.

If one AirPod is louder or quieter than the other

If your left or right AirPod isn't playing any sound, or if the volume is too quiet:

  1. Remove your AirPods ear tips to check the microphone and speaker mesh on each AirPod.
