Here's what you need
Subscribe to Apple Music and turn on Sync Library for your devices. Then you can add and download music from the Apple Music catalog to your library. And you can access your music library across all of your devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID that you use with Apple Music.
If you don't subscribe to Apple Music but want to download content to your device, you can buy music from the iTunes Store on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC.

Add music
Follow the steps below for your device.
On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the Music app. On your Android device, open the Apple Music app.
- Find music that you want to add to your library.
- To add a song, tap
. To add an entire album or playlist, tap +ADD.
You can find songs, albums, and playlists that you've added in Library.
On your Mac
- Open the Music app.
- Find music that you want to add to your library.
- To add a song, click
. To add an entire album or playlist, click +Add.
After you add music, you can find songs and albums in Library, and playlists in the sidebar.
On your PC
- Open iTunes for Windows.
- Find music that you want to add to your library.
- To add a song, click
. To add an entire album or playlist, click +ADD.
After you add music, you can find songs and albums in Library, and playlists in the sidebar of Library under Apple Music Playlists.
Buy music from the iTunes Store
If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or want to buy a song, you can purchase music from the iTunes Store. Follow the steps below for your device.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the iTunes Store app, tap Music, find music, then tap the price to buy it.
- On your Mac, open the Music app, click iTunes Store in the sidebar, find music, then click the Buy price.
- On your PC, open iTunes for Windows, choose Music from the pop-up menu, then click Store in the navigation bar. Find music, then click the Buy price.
After you tap or click Buy, you might be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID to complete the purchase.
If you don't see the iTunes Store on your Mac
If you're signed in to the Music app on your Mac with the Apple ID you use with your Apple Music subscription, the iTunes Store might be hidden in the sidebar.
If you don't see the iTunes Store in the sidebar, follow these steps:
- Open the Music app.
- In the menu bar, choose Music > Preferences.
- Go to the General tab and select iTunes Store.
- Click OK.
Download music to your device
You can download music that you added from the Apple Music catalog or purchased from the iTunes Store to your device so you can listen to it offline.
Just find the song, album, or playlist that you want to download to your device, then tap or click . On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, when you download an entire album or playlist,
changes to
DOWNLOADED when the download is complete.
