Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
A battery should be replaced only by individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. Improper battery replacement, improper handling of parts, or failure to follow the provided instructions could result in fire, injury, data loss, or damage to the device, parts, or other property.

Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Heat-resistant gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Safety glasses with side shields
Sand
Sand container
Torx Plus 4IP 25 mm bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Important
If you replace this part, it's recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.
Identify the model you're repairing
Identify whether you're repairing a model with eSIM or a physical SIM (pSIM). Then follow the removal and reassembly steps for that model.

Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly for eSIM models.
Important
Remove the display. Then continue to step 1.
Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx Plus 4IP bit to remove the fifteen 4IP screws in the order shown.

Lift the battery from the enclosure.

Note: Some screws may come in a bag labeled with a 452 part number. They will be included with the screw kits, but can be ordered separately using the equivalent 923 part number.

Warning
Visually inspect the enclosure for loose or extra screws and small parts that may have attached to magnetized areas, as these can damage the battery and cause safety issues.
Hold the top right and lower left corners as you position the battery into the enclosure.

Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 34 Ncm. Use the torque driver and 4IP bit to install 12 new 4IP screws into the battery plate in the order shown.

Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to install two new 4IP screws into the battery plate in the order shown.

Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 17.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to install one new 4IP screw (923-13723) into the battery plate.

Follow the steps to complete reassembly.
pSIM models
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly for pSIM models.
Important
Remove the display. Then continue to step 1.
Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx Plus 4IP bit to remove the fourteen 4IP screws in the order shown.

Lift the battery from the enclosure.

Caution: The screw tray is the same for eSIM and pSIM models. One screw (923-13951) labeled with the caution icon is not used for pSIM models.
Note: Some screws may come in a bag labeled with a 452 part number. They will be included with the screw kits, but can be ordered separately using the equivalent 923 part number.

Warning

Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to install two new 4IP screws into the battery plate in the order shown.

Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 17.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to install one new 4IP screw (923-13723) into the battery plate.

Follow the steps to complete reassembly.
Complete Reassembly
Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
Warning
Gently shake the iPhone. If the battery feels loose, remove the display and the battery. Then complete the battery reassembly steps with another replacement battery.
Important
A new battery is not charged. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, charge the device for a few minutes.
