Connect and charge Apple Vision Pro battery

Learn how to connect and charge your Apple Vision Pro battery, what the battery light means, and get tips for the best experience.

Apple Vision Pro is powered by an external rechargeable battery that you can use for up to 2 hours of general use or 2.5 hours of video watching* when fully charged, or all day when connected to power. The battery also powers Apple Vision Pro when you're not wearing it, allowing the device to sync your mail, photos, and more.

If you don't use Apple Vision Pro for 24 hours, it turns off automatically. To check if Apple Vision Pro is still powered on when you're not wearing it, pick up the device. If it's powered on, the light on the power cable will turn on briefly. If Apple Vision Pro has turned off, press and hold the top button for 3 seconds to turn it back on. After about a minute, Apple Vision Pro makes a tone that means it's ready to use, and the light on the power cable is solid.

If you know you won't be using your Apple Vision Pro for an extended length of time, it's best to disconnect the battery.

How to connect the Apple Vision Pro battery

  1. Insert the power cable into the power connector on the left Audio Strap. The power cable should be angled slightly upward, so that the dot on the power cable aligns with the white outlined dot on the Audio Strap.

  2. Rotate the power cable clockwise one-quarter turn, so that the dot on the power cable aligns with the filled dot on the Audio Strap. When the battery is successfully connected, the light on the power cable pulses, and Apple Vision Pro turns on. After about a minute, Apple Vision Pro makes a tone that means it's ready to use, and the light on the power cable is solid.

How to disconnect the Apple Vision Pro battery

To disconnect the battery from your Apple Vision Pro, first save any open documents — disconnecting the battery turns off the device — then turn the power cable counterclockwise until it detaches.

Charging the Apple Vision Pro battery

To charge the Apple Vision Pro battery, connect it to a power outlet using a USB-C Charge Cable and an Apple USB-C power adapter rated for 30W or higher. When you plug in the battery, the light next to the battery's USB-C port turns on briefly to show that it's connected to power.

The light next to the battery's USB-C port can give you a quick look at the battery's current charge state when you're not wearing Apple Vision Pro. The light turns on briefly when you connect the battery to the USB-C Charge Cable, when you disconnect it, and when you move or gently tap it.

What the battery light means when connected to power

Here's what the light means when you first connect the battery to power, or if you move or tap the battery while it's charging:

  • Green for several seconds: the battery is charged to capacity.

  • Amber for several seconds: the battery's charge level is less than 100%, but has enough charge for you to use Apple Vision Pro.

  • Amber pulsing slowly: the battery's charge level is too low to power your Apple Vision Pro. Keep charging the battery for 10 minutes, or until the light shows amber steadily (not pulsing) when you tap the battery.

What the battery light means when disconnected from power

Here's what the light means when you disconnect the battery from power, or if you move or tap the battery while it's not connected to power:

  • Green for several seconds: the battery is charged to 50% or higher.

  • Amber for several seconds: the battery's charge level is between 5% and 49%.

  • Amber pulsing slowly: the battery's charge level is too low to power your Apple Vision Pro. Charge the battery for 10 minutes, or until the light shows amber steadily (not pulsing) when you tap the battery.

See the battery level in visionOS

To see the battery's charge level, put on Apple Vision Pro and open Control Center. The battery level is in the top-right corner. If you want to see the exact charge percentage in Control Center, go to Settings > Battery and turn on Battery Percentage.

If your Apple Vision Pro battery isn't charging

If you connect your Apple Vision Pro battery to power and its light doesn't come on, first make sure you're using a USB-C power adapter rated for 30W or higher. Try a different power adapter or USB-C charging cable to see if that's causing the issue. Also check to see if the wall plug or other electricity source you're connected to can power other devices.

If you notice that your Apple Vision Pro doesn't show that it's charging in visionOS when connected to power, or if you plug the battery into your USB-C Charge Cable and Apple USB-C power adapter and it still isn't charging, reset your battery:

  1. Disconnect the battery from your Apple Vision Pro.

  2. Make sure that the battery is connected to power, then disconnect and reconnect the battery to power.

  3. Connect the battery to your Apple Vision Pro.

Keep these battery tips in mind

  • If you suspect there may be liquid in the charging port of the Apple Vision Pro battery, don’t plug the charging cable into it. For information about exposure to liquid, and other information about safely using and charging the battery, see Important safety information for Apple Vision Pro.

  • If your Apple Vision Pro is turned on and you don't use it for 24 hours, the device shuts down automatically. If Apple Vision Pro has turned off, press and hold the top button for three seconds to turn it back on.

  • While wearing Apple Vision Pro, place the battery in a comfortable location close to your body, like in your pocket.

  • Avoid placing the battery near external heat sources.

  • Be aware of the battery and power cable while using Apple Vision Pro. For example, don’t sit down with the battery in your back pocket, pull the battery off your desk when you stand up, or let it fall between seats on an airplane.

  • If the battery is accidentally detached during use, take off Apple Vision Pro.

  • It's normal for the battery to get warm as it charges. To help lower battery temperature and extend the battery's lifespan, remove it from your pocket or other enclosed space while it's charging.

* Testing conducted by Apple in November 2023 using preproduction Apple Vision Pro units and software. Testing consisted of full battery discharge while performing each of the following tasks: video playback, internet browsing, spatial video capture, and FaceTime. Video playback tested in conjunction with an Environment, using 2D movie content purchased from the Apple TV app. Internet browsing tested using 20 popular websites. FaceTime tested between two Apple Vision Pro units with Personas enabled. Tested with Wi‑Fi associated to a network. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, network, environmental conditions, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific Apple Vision Pro units; actual results may vary.
