Archive a device in Fleetsmith
You can archive a device in Fleetsmith. Archiving removes a device from active management; the apps and settings are retained but are no longer enforced. The device is moved to the Archived Devices page and no longer uses a Fleetsmith device license. When an active iPhone or iPad is remotely erased, it is automatically archived as well.
Note: When an active Mac is remotely erased, it is automatically archived as well. The unlock PIN for the Mac is available in the archived record in the Fleetsmith Admin Console. Permanently deleting the archived record also deletes the PIN.
When you archive a device:
The device no longer receives new enforcement profiles and continues to enforce its current profile for 24 hours until the agent’s download token expires.
Apps (Mac computers only), settings, and configuration profiles that were previously installed aren’t removed from the device. The Fleetsmith MDM configuration profile is removed.
The device’s Details page no longer shows up-to-date information for the device. Rather, it is a snapshot of the device’s information at the time of the archival.
The archived device doesn’t count toward your device limit.
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, locate the device you want to archive, then check the box next to it.
Click Archive in the upper-right corner, then follow the prompts to archive the device.
After the device has been archived, it can’t be unarchived and must be reenrolled. For Mac computers, see Enroll a single Mac in Full Management. For iPhone and iPad devices, see Enroll iPhone or iPad devices in Full Management.
Important: If you delete an archived device, Fleetsmith removes all record of it. This action is permanent. If a device’s Details page contains important information, such as a Remote Lock (or Erase) PIN or a FileVault recovery key, take note of it before deleting the device’s record from Fleetsmith. Failure to do so could result in the information being lost forever.
