If you're having issues with Thunderbolt 3 networking or were directed to this page when you connected a Mac to another host, check the following:
- Make sure that your computers support Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C. If you're not sure, check with the manufacturer.
- Connect your Mac directly to the other computer, not through a USB-C hub. USB-C hubs don't support Thunderbolt 3 connections between their ports.
- Use a cable that supports Thunderbolt 3. Not all USB-C cables support the requirements of Thunderbolt 3. For example, the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Cable supports a Thunderbolt 3 connection, but a USB-C charge cable does not.
- If you're connecting a Mac with Thunderbolt 3 to a Mac with Thunderbolt 2, use an Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable.
