iPhone 17e Bottom Speaker

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Tools

  • Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)

  • Trilobe 44 mm half-moon bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

 Caution

Avoid touching the grounding springs on or near the bottom speaker.

Removal

Important

Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 4. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the three trilobe screws from the middle and lower connector cowlings and one trilobe screw from the bottom speaker.

    • Remove the lower connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Remove the middle connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

  2. Lift the end of the battery flex cable off the connector (1). Then lift the end of the back glass flex cable off the connector (2).

    • Caution

      • You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone remains turned off.

      • The battery flex cable has strong adhesive under it. Don’t tear the flex cable while removing it.

    • Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them from the back glass. Then put the back glass into an ESD-safe bag.

  3. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove four crosshead screws from the bottom speaker. Remove the bottom speaker from the system.

    • Caution: Don’t damage the grounding spring on the bottom speaker.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure that the rubber gasket is positioned as shown. If the gasket is out of position, use ESD-safe tweezers to reposition it.

  2. Position the bottom speaker in the enclosure. Use the orange torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-12368) into the bottom speaker.

  3. Use the orange torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-08379) into the bottom speaker.

  4. Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-08382) into the bottom speaker.

    • Caution: Don’t damage the grounding springs on the bottom speaker.
