Removal

  1. Using ESD-safe tweezers, gently peel the silver tab from the battery until you reach about a 45 degree angle.

  2. Connect the red connector of the 9-volt battery to the silver tab on the iPhone battery, and connect the black connector of the 9-volt battery to the lower right grounding screw on the bottom speaker.

  3. Hold the connection for 1 minute 30 seconds.

    • If the connection is not secure, the adhesive will not debond. If clips disconnect, restart the procedure from step 1.

    • Adhesive removal time may increase during the product’s life. Adhesive removal can be accomplished by applying up to 30 volts, using alternate power sources such as DC power supplies. Higher voltage application will result in faster removal times.

  4. Use a suction cup or the black stick to lift the battery out of the enclosure. The battery is now removed.

    • If you feel resistance while attempting to remove the battery, repeat steps 1 through 3.

    • Warning: If you can’t remove the battery, stop the repair. You can find a service option at support.apple.com/repair.

Reassembly

  1. Use ethanol wipes or IPA wipes to remove all remaining adhesive from the enclosure underneath the battery.

    • Caution: The adhesive is transparent. You must wipe the enclosure five to 10 times to ensure the adhesive is removed.

    • Note: After cleaning, minor discoloration of the housing may be seen and is acceptable.

  2. Peel the pink release liner from the underside of the replacement battery.

    • Important: Don’t remove the protective cover from the top of the battery yet.

  3. Hold the battery over the enclosure with the protective cover faceup. Align the right edge of the battery with the logic board and the bottom edge of the battery with the bottom speaker. Then lower the battery into the enclosure.

  4. The center of the repair tray has two slots. Position the repair tray and enclosure onto the battery press with one slot of the repair tray on one side of the battery press.

  5. Flip down the lever at the top of the battery press to lower the roller onto the battery. Then slide the repair tray back and forth through the battery press three times to adhere the battery to the enclosure.

  6. Flip up the red lever at the top of the battery press.

  7. Position the repair tray and enclosure onto the other side of the battery press.

  8. Repeat steps 5 and 6. Then remove the repair tray from the battery press.

  9. Hold the edges of the protective cover. Pull the release tabs on the protective cover to remove it from the battery.

    • Important: Don’t press the area over the tab you’re releasing.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

Warning

Gently shake the iPhone. If the battery sounds loose, remove the back glass and the battery. Then complete battery reassembly with another replacement battery.
