Set up and use Face Recognition

Find out who's at your door no matter where you are. When you set up Face Recognition in the Home app, you can get notified the moment a visitor arrives and view live video of your front door.

Set up your camera or video doorbell

You can use any HomeKit-supported camera or doorbell to record and stream video around your home. But if you want your camera to identify visitors at your front door using Face Recognition, you need a HomeKit Secure Video camera or video doorbell.

Once you have your camera or doorbell, set it up in the Home app.

View video clips and streams

On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, open the Home app and select a camera or doorbell to view video clips and streams.

To view your camera video stream in Control Center on Apple TV, first add the camera to Favorite Cameras in the Home app. Then open Control Center on your Apple TV, and click the Home app icon to view your video stream. If you're watching your Apple TV and have a HomeKit Secure Video doorbell, live video will automatically stream in a picture window on your Apple TV when the doorbell is pressed.

Turn on Face Recognition

HomeKit Secure Video cameras and doorbells can identify visitors only if you turn on Face Recognition in the Home app.

Tag your family and friends

After you turn on Face Recogition, tag your family and friends so that the Home app can tell you who's at the door. Or identify recent visitors that aren't in your Photos library using a picture captured by your camera or doorbell.

Customize your notifications

Be notified when your kids get home from school, when your mail carrier arrives, or when your camera detects motion in an activity zone. Learn about all the different ways you can adjust notifications in the Home app so that you're alerted only when you want to be.
