Compatibility of Fibre Channel storage devices with Xsan

This article lists the Fibre Channel storage hardware that's compatible with Xsan and OS X.

OS X Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, and Lion

  • Storage devices qualified for use in Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or earlier

  • Any ALUA-compliant Fibre Channel RAID systems

Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or earlier

  • Apple Xserve RAID

  • Promise VTrak E-Class RAID Subsystem (requires Mac OS X v10.5.2 Leopard or later)

OS X Lion and later include support for the Asymmetric Logical Unit Access (ALUA) standard for multipathing and failover. Support for this industry standard multipathing implementation allows Lion and newer Xsan systems to be used with a wide variety of Fibre Channel RAID storage arrays.
