Part types
Genuine Apple parts
Genuine Apple parts are new parts sourced from Apple and rigorously designed and tested to meet our safety, security, and performance standards.

Used Apple parts
Used Apple parts are genuine parts taken from an existing device of the same model. Used Apple parts in good condition can achieve the same performance and security as new genuine Apple parts. However, since these parts aren't sourced from Apple, and therefore are of unknown origin, their quality may vary because of prior use or modification.
Used Apple parts and repairs performed with used Apple parts aren't covered by Apple's product warranty or an AppleCare plan.
Third-party parts
Third-party parts may claim to be compatible with Apple products. These parts may or may not perform at the same level as genuine Apple parts or used Apple parts and may introduce privacy or safety risks.
Apple won't actively disable a third-party part unless it impacts customer security and privacy, such as parts used in biometric authentication (Touch ID). The other features of these parts, such as buttons, will continue to operate per the capability of the part installed.
Third-party parts and repairs performed with third-party parts aren't covered by Apple's product warranty or an AppleCare plan.

Warning: It's recommended to only install new batteries. Used battery cells can become damaged during the removal process, which could cause battery overheating, swelling, venting, leaking, or a battery thermal event. These events could result in fire, injury, death, data loss, or damage to the device, parts, or other property.2 Repair Assistant is required to enable Touch ID biometric authentication.
