Add a Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card to Apple Wallet

Add a Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card to Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch to ride transit and make purchases using Apple Pay.

To add a Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card to your iPhone or Apple Watch1, you need:

  • An Apple ID that you used to sign in on your device, with two-factor authentication enabled.
  • Suica or PASMO: An iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus or later, or an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, with the latest version of iOS or watchOS.
  • Suica only: An iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or Apple Watch Series 2 that was purchased in Japan.
  • ICOCA only2: An iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus or later with iOS 16 or later. Or, an Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 8.7.1 or later. 

To add a new Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card, you need an eligible payment card in Apple Wallet.

 


Add a Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card to Apple Wallet

You can add a new Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card on your iPhone or Apple Watch, or you can transfer your physical card to your device.

When you add your first Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card, Express Mode is automatically turned on for that card, which allows you to pay for transit rides and make purchases with just a tap.

How to add a new Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card on your iPhone or Apple Watch

  1. To add a card:
    • iPhone: Open the Wallet app and tap the Add button Add button.
    • Apple Watch: On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. Then scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, and tap Add Card.
  2. Tap Transit Card.
  3. Choose the card that you want to add.
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. Choose an amount to put on the card and tap Add.
  6. Follow the steps on the screen to confirm your purchase and add your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card.

How to transfer a physical Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card to your iPhone or Apple Watch

You can transfer your physical Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card and its current balance to Apple Wallet.3 After the transfer, your physical card won't work and your deposit will be added to your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA balance in Apple Wallet.

  1. To add a card:
    • iPhone: Open the Wallet app and tap the Add button Add button.
    • Apple Watch: On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. Then scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, and tap Add Card.
  2. Tap Transit Card.
  3. Choose the card that you want to add and tap Continue.
  4. Tap Transfer Existing Card.
  5. Follow the steps on the screen to transfer your physical card. Verify the last four digits of the card number.

    Your date of birth is required only if you're adding a My Suica card, personalized PASMO card, a Commuter PASMO or Suica card, or an ICOCA card. Use the same date of birth that you entered when you purchased your plastic physical card. Tap Next.
  6. Place your card on a flat surface and rest the top of your iPhone on the card until Card Added appears on the screen. This process could take a few minutes to complete.

Transfer your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card between devices

You can have a Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card on only one device at a time. But you can move your card between devices.

How to transfer your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. In the My Watch tab, scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Tap the Add button next to the card that you want to move to your Apple Watch.
  4. You can also select Add Card to view a list of previous cards from your other devices.

To move the card back to your iPhone, use the Apple Watch app: tap Wallet & Apple Pay, tap your card, then tap Add card to iPhone.

How to transfer your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card using Setup Assistant

  1. In Setup Assistant on your new iPhone, tap Wallet.
  2. Select the cards that you want to transfer from your previous device.
  3. Tap Continue to confirm that you want to transfer your cards to your new device.4

Your previous device must be nearby and connected to the internet in order to complete the transfer to your new device. 

How to transfer your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card using the Wallet app

  1. On your new iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap the Add button Add button.
  2. Tap Previous Cards and choose your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card.
  3. Follow the steps on the screen to add your card to the new iPhone.4

You can't move your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card during a transit journey. 

Your previous device must be nearby and connected to the internet in order to complete the transfer to your new device. 

How to remove your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card

  1. On your iPhone, open the Wallet app.
  2. Tap your Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card.
  3. Tap the More button More button, then tap Card Details.
  4. Scroll down and tap Remove this Card, then tap Remove to confirm.

  1. Apple Pay isn't available for children under 13. Age varies by country or region.
  2. For ICOCA cards, only transit cards issued by JR West are supported. Refer to ICOCA directly for a comprehensive list of eligible cards. 
  3. Make sure that you sign in to iCloud on all your devices. On your iOS device, you need to set up Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. On your Apple Watch, you need to set up a passcode. If you remove your passcode or sign out of iCloud, all credit, prepaid, and Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA cards are removed from that device. When you remove a Suica, PASMO, or ICOCA card from any device, the remaining balance will be stored and available to be transferred to the same or another iPhone or Apple Watch that is signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  4. Once transfer is complete, the previous card will remain visible in the Wallet app with an indication that the card can't be used.
