Turn on closed captions and subtitles on your iPod nano

On iPad nano, you can use closed captions and subtitles to read the dialogue in a video.

If the video you're watching includes closed captions and subtitles, you can find them in the Audio & Subtitles menu:

  1. While watching a video in the Videos app, tap the screen to reveal the playback controls.
  2. Tap the speech bubble icon  to open the Audio & Subtitles menu.
  3. Choose the subtitles option that you want to use.

Set caption and subtitle preferences

If you want videos to use captions or subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing by default:

  1. Tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Subtitles & Captioning.
  2. Turn on Closed Captions.

Not all videos include caption or subtitle tracks. Check the documentation for the video you're using to see if it includes these features.

Some third party websites and apps provide custom caption controls for videos. If you don't see caption controls when viewing video from a website, check the documentation, or contact the website owner or app developer for more information.
