Removal

  1. Place the computer on a clean, flat surface with the bottom faceup and the display hinge facing away from you.

  2. Use the pentalobe screwdriver to remove four pentalobe screws:

    • 923-15350 (silver)

    • 923-15351 (space black)

  3. Six clips attach the bottom case to the top case (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

  4. Press the suction cup to attach it to the lower left side of the bottom case. Pull up the handle of the suction cup until you feel the clip (1) release. Squeeze the edges of the suction cup to release it. Then move the suction cup to the bottom left side and use the suction cup to release the two lower clips (2, 3).

  5. Repeat step 4 to release the clips on the right side of the bottom case (4, 5, 6).

  6. Put on cut-resistant gloves. Slightly lift the bottom case from the edge closest to you and slide the bottom case toward you to release the cleats from the vent/antenna module. Set the bottom case faceup on a clean, flat surface. Then remove the gloves.

    • Note: If you’re replacing only the bottom case and no other parts, skip to Reassembly step 10.

  7. Place the battery cover on the battery. Then press the black tabs on the battery cover into the clips on the top case until you feel a click.

  8. Gently peel the polyester film tab off the locking lever of the battery management unit (BMU) flex cable.

  9. Lift the locking lever on the BMU flex cable connector. Then slide the end of the BMU flex cable out of the connector.

    • Caution: Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the BMU flex cable for the logic board to discharge. Then continue with the removal steps.

  10. Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-15323) from the trackpad connector cowling (1). Remove the cowling (2) and save it for reassembly.

  11. Lift the end of the trackpad flex cable off the connector on the logic board.

  12. Gently peel back the trackpad flex cable and gently peel the BMU flex cable off the 5IP screw.

    • Caution: The adhesive holding the trackpad flex cable to the battery management unit board is strong.

  13. Hold back the flex cables. Then use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to remove the 5IP screw (923-15331).

    • Note: You can use the flat end of the black stick to hold back the flex cables.
