Check compatibility

You'll only see updates that are compatible with your current software version. If you haven't downloaded the most current release, you won't see the option to install the latest release.

Download iOS 18

When you download the latest version of iOS, your data and settings remain unchanged.

Update iPhone automatically

1. Go to Settings.

2. Tap General.

3. Tap Software Update.

4. Tap Automatic Updates.

5. Turn on iOS Updates below Automatically Install and Automatically Download.

When an update is available, iPhone downloads and installs the update while charging and connected to Wi-Fi. You’re notified before iPhone installs the update.

To turn off automatic updates:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Tap General.

3. Tap Software Update.

4. Tap Automatic Updates.

Update iPhone manually

1. Go to Settings.

2. Tap General.

3. Tap Software Update.

The screen shows the currently installed version of iOS and whether an update is available.
