  Caution

Removal

  1. Position the housing with the logic board facing up.

  2. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP 25 mm bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-10013) from the USB-C board connector cowling.

  3. Remove the USB-C board connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

  4. Use the teal torque driver and 3IP half-moon bit to remove the five 3IP screws from the antenna grounding clips on the logic board.

    • 923-05174 (1)

    • 923-05173 (2)

  5. Use the antenna tool to lift the ends of the three antenna coaxial cables off the connectors.

  6. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel back the polyester film tape on the fan flex cable.

  7. Use the black stick to flip up the locking lever on the end of the fan flex cable connector.

  8. Spread the tips of the ESD-safe tweezers and insert one tip under the wide portion of the fan flex cable, as shown, to loosen the adhesive between the fan flex cable and the logic board. Then pull the fan flex cable out of the connector.

    • Caution: Don’t touch any of the small components on the logic board. Keep the tweezers parallel with the logic board surface to prevent damage.

  9. Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the left speaker cable off the connector.

  10. Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the right speaker cable off the connector.

  11. Use the ESD-safe tweezers to peel off the polyester film tape from the display backlight cable connector. Save it for reassembly.

  12. Pinch the sides of the end of the display backlight flex cable and slide it out of the connector.

  13. Use the flat end of the black stick to press and hold the “PUSH” buttons on the zero-insertion force (ZIF) microphone flex cable connector and audio board and power button flex cable connector. Then slide the ends of the cables out of the connectors.

  14. Pull the tab to flip up the locking bar on the camera and embedded DisplayPort (eDP) flex cable (1). Slide the end of the camera and eDP flex cable out of the connector (2). Then remove the camera and eDP flex cable from the housing.

  15. Use the black stick to lift the end of the USB-C board flex cable off the connector.

  16. Use the 2.5 mm hex nut driver to remove the 10 2.5 mm hex screws from the logic board.

    • 923-10011 (1)

    • 923-05556 (2)

  17. Move the antenna cables and flex cables out of the way as you tilt forward the logic board (1). Then lift the logic board out of the housing (2).

    • Note

      • Use Kapton tape if necessary to keep the antenna cables and flex cables out of the way as you remove the logic board.

      • If the logic board doesn’t tilt forward easily, you may need to remove the foam wedge from the stand and push the logic board through the DC inlet hole in the back of the housing. Reinstall the foam wedge after you complete this step.

Reassembly

  1. If you’re installing a replacement logic board, remove the plastic liner covering the DC inlet on the back of the logic board.

  2. Move the antenna cables and flex cables out of the way. Position the logic board and low-speed flex cable in the housing (1). Then tilt the logic board to the housing (2).

    • Warning: Ensure that the battery and DC inlet on the logic board are properly aligned with the housing, as shown. Avoid shifting the logic board left or right during installation, as this could cause the battery to short.

  3. Ensure that the logic board is properly positioned in the housing and no antenna cables or flex cables are trapped under the logic board.

  4. Use the 2.5 mm hex nut driver to reinstall the 10 2.5 mm hex screws into the logic board.

    • 923-10011 (1)

    • 923-05556 (2)

  5. Gently press the end of the USB-C board flex cable to the connector.

  6. Slide the end of the camera and eDP flex cable into the connector (1). Then flip down the locking bar on the camera and eDP flex cable (2).

  7. Slide the ends of the microphone flex cable and the audio board and power button flex cable into the connectors.

  8. Slide the end of the display backlight cable into the connector.

  9. Press the polyester film tape back to the display backlight flex cable connector.

  10. Press the end of the left speaker cable to the connector.

  11. Press the end of the right speaker cable to the connector.

  12. Slide the end of the left fan flex cable into the connector (1). Then flip down the locking lever (2).

  13. Press the polyester film tape over the end of the left fan flex cable.

  14. Press the fan flex cable to adhere it to the logic board.

  15. Route the shorter antenna coaxial cable (3) under the longer antenna coaxial cable (2). Use the blunt end of the antenna tool to press the ends of the three antenna coaxial cables to the connectors.

  16. Use the teal torque driver and 3IP half-moon bit to reinstall the five 3IP screws into the antenna grounding clips on the logic board.

    • 923-05174 (1)

    • 923-05173 (2)

  17. Position the USB-C board connector cowling over the connector.

  18. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 3IP 25 mm bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-10013) into the USB-C board connector cowling.

  19. If you’re installing a replacement logic board, pull the tab on the battery protective liner to remove the liner.
