About Apple Music web player & Privacy

Privacy Icon

  • Apple Music web player collects information associated with a unique identifier that is specific to the domain of the page you visit, if you are not signed in to Apple Music. If you are signed in to Apple Music, the identifier is consistent across all pages in which the player loads.
  • These identifiers last for one day and are not linked to your Apple ID.
  • If you are signed in to Apple Music in your browser and interact with the player (e.g. play music), we collect the same information as when you use the Music app on your device or desktop along with the domain of the page.

Protecting the privacy and security of your information is a priority for everyone at Apple. We work hard to collect only the data we need to make your experience better, and when we do collect data we believe it's important for you to know what we’re collecting and why we need it, so you can make informed choices. Apple Music web player, like every Apple product, is designed with these principles in mind.

When you visit a website with an embedded Apple Music web player, Apple collects, in a privacy-preserving manner, limited information about where the player is embedded and how you interact with it, to understand how the player is used and improve the player experience. While the player may be embedded in third-party web pages, the player is served by Apple, and therefore Apple is able to collect information about where and how the player is used. This document applies only to Apple’s collection, use, and disclosure of information. The web pages you visit that embed the web player may also separately collect information about you, and that information will be governed by their own policies and practices.

To collect this information, we may use cookies, or similar local storage technology, to store website data on your device in your web browser profile. Learn how to manage cookies and website data in the Safari web browser on your Mac or on your iOS device. For other browsers, check with your web browser provider. Disabling cookies or local storage may affect how the player works, including your ability to stay signed in to Apple Music in your browser.

If you are not signed in to Apple Music in your browser and the player is embedded in a web page you visit, we collect information about the player and activity within the player. This includes the domain of the embedding page, information about your browser or device, general geographic information based on your IP address (and only maintaining a truncated IP address), and what music you play. This information is associated with a random unique identifier specific to the web player in your browser and the domain of the embedding page. This identifier resets after one day and is not linked to your Apple ID, if you have one. If you click on a link in the player to sign up for Apple Music, we will collect the full URL of the embedding page as part of that event.

If you are signed in to Apple Music in your browser and the player is embedded in a web page you visit, we collect information about the player in association with a separate identifier that is also unique to the web player in your browser but consistent across all embedding pages. This identifier also resets after one day and is not linked to your Apple ID. The information we collect includes the domain of the embedding page, information about your browser or device, general geographic information based on your IP address (and only maintaining a truncated IP address), and interactions with player features not involving playback.

If you are signed in to Apple Music in your browser and interact with an Apple Music web player (such as clicking a link or playing music), we collect information about your activity in association with your Apple ID to customize your Apple Music experience and meet our obligations to strategic partners associated with the service. For more information about how we collect and use information about Apple Music subscribers, please see Apple Music & Privacy.

Information collected about the Apple Music web player and your activity within the player is stored for up to two years as outlined above to allow for analysis of trends. Information collected in a signed-in state is handled as described in Apple Music & Privacy.

All of this information is collected and used in accordance with our privacy policy, available at www.apple.com/privacy.
