Some Xsan features aren’t supported on clients of StorNext MDCs

Learn which Xsan features aren’t supported on these clients, and under which configurations.

When you access a storage area network (SAN) volume that runs on Quantum StorNext metadata controllers (MDCs), these Xsan features aren’t supported:

  • Versions

  • File system quotas, if the StorNext MDC is Windows-based

  • Case-insensitive volumes, if the MDC runs StorNext 5.3 or earlier

  • Native extended attributes, if the MDC runs StorNext 4.2 or earlier

  • Project-oriented quotas, if the MDC runs StorNext 4.2 or earlier and the client runs Xsan 2.2.2 or earlier

File system ACLs are supported only in these configurations:

  • The StorNext MDC runs on Linux and has only Xsan clients.

  • The StorNext MDC runs on Linux and has StorNext Windows and Xsan clients.

  • The StorNext MDC runs on Windows and has StorNext Windows and Xsan clients.

  • The StorNext MDC runs on Linux and has Xsan clients, StorNext Windows clients, and Linux StorNext clients, where the Linux clients are running StorNext 5.4 or later.

Quantum StorNext Product Bulletin 71 has more information about supported configurations for enabling ACLs on Apple Xsan clients. You can also learn more about which SAN clients are compatible with Xsan and StorNext controllers.
