Change General settings in Terminal on Mac
Use General settings in Terminal to change the default window settings and the type of shell that’s used when a new window is opened in Terminal.
To change these settings in the Terminal app on your Mac, choose Terminal > Settings, then click General.

On startup, open | Choose the initial window configuration. New window with profile: Select “New window with profile,” click the pop-up menu, then choose a profile. Window group: Select “Window group,” click the pop-up menu, then choose a group.

Shells open with | Choose the shell that’s used when a new window opens. Default login shell: The login shell set up for your user account. The default login shell is zsh. Command (complete path): To use a different shell, enter the path to the shell.

New windows open with | Choose the profile and working directory for new windows. Default Profile: Opens a window with the default profile. Same Profile: Opens a window with the profile used by the active window. Default Working Directory: Opens a window with the home directory set up for your user account. Same Working Directory: Opens a window with the working directory used by the active window.

New tabs open with | Choose the profile and working directory for new tabs. Default Profile: Opens a tab with the default profile. Same Profile: Opens a tab with the profile used by the active tab. Default Working Directory: Opens a tab with the home directory set up for your user account. Same Working Directory: Opens a tab with the working directory used by the active tab.
