section

A section is a portion of a document, such as a chapter, to which you can apply formatting different from the rest of the document. Each section can have different margins, page numbering, headers, and footers.

Every document has at least one section:

• A word-processing document is all one section unless you add additional sections. A section can be one or more pages.

• In page layout documents, each page is automatically a section; you can’t divide the content on a page into multiple sections.
