Capture and edit your Persona (beta) on Apple Vision Pro
Your Persona is a dynamic, natural representation of your face and hand movements that can be used while you’re wearing Apple Vision Pro. You can use your Persona in a FaceTime call, or in another app that uses the Persona Virtual Camera to show your Persona.
After you capture your Persona, EyeSight is personalized to show your eyes to others nearby. See What does EyeSight show?
Capture your Persona
You can capture your Persona when you set up your Apple Vision Pro, or later in Settings . After you capture your Persona, you can adjust the lighting, temperature, and brightness of your Persona, as well as add glasses for a personal touch.
Go to Settings > Persona, then tap Get Started.
Refine your hand setup, then watch the tutorial video to learn the best practices to capture your Persona.
If you’ve watched the video before, you can tap Continue to skip it.
When instructed, take off Apple Vision Pro, hold it by the frame and turn it around so the front is facing you at eye level, then follow the spoken instructions.
The instructions prompt you to turn your head in different directions and make various expressions while you hold Apple Vision Pro in front of you.
If you aren’t able to hear the instructions, visuals on the front display also appear to guide you through the process:
Directional arrows: Slowly turn your head in the indicated direction.
Four rings: Smile with your mouth closed.
Three rings: Make a big smile with your teeth showing.
Two rings: Raise your eyebrows.
One ring: Close your eyes for a moment.
No rings: Put Apple Vision Pro back on.
Tip: If you’re not able to perform one of the facial expressions, double-click the Digital Crown to skip that expression.
After you capture your Persona, you can edit it by adjusting the lighting, temperature, and brightness, or selecting a pair of glasses.
For example, tap Studio to brightly light your Persona, or tap Contour to add dramatic shadows with highlights and lowlights.
Tap to go back to other settings.
When you finish making changes, tap Save.
Capture your Persona without holding Apple Vision Pro
If you have trouble holding Apple Vision Pro, you can use Hands-Free Capture and place it on a surface at eye level, or have someone else hold it during the capture process.
Go to Settings > Persona, then tap Get Started.
After you refine your hands, tap , then turn on Hands-Free Capture.
You can turn on Hands-Free Capture during the tutorial video, or after you watch it.
Tap Save in the top-right corner.
When instructed, take off Apple Vision Pro, set it down at eye level (or have someone else hold it), then follow the spoken instructions.
Tips for capturing your Persona
Take your time getting ready. Capturing won’t start until you’re holding your Apple Vision Pro at eye level.
If you don’t start the capture within 15 minutes, it’s cancelled. You can restart the capture after you put your Apple Vision Pro back on.
Find a space with front-facing, even lighting, so your face is well lit and there aren’t strong shadows on your face.
If possible, use natural light or cool-temperature lights. Avoid having bright windows or lamps behind or beside you.
Stand or sit in front of a simple, neutral background without too many details.
Avoid other people in the background during your capture.
Stay in the same location and position during the capture process.
Relax your shoulders while holding Apple Vision Pro.
Edit or recapture your Persona
After you capture your Persona, you can adjust the lighting or select a pair of glasses. You can also recapture your Persona at any time—for example, to reflect a change in your hairstyle or outfit.
When you recapture your Persona, EyeSight is also automatically updated.
Go to Settings > Persona.
Tap Edit Details or Recapture.
Your Persona is stored encrypted on your device and requires Optic ID or your passcode to access (depending on your settings). If you have Optic ID turned on and then turn it off, your Persona is deleted.
You can’t capture or edit your Persona if Travel Mode is turned on and during FaceTime calls. Persona isn’t available while others are using your Apple Vision Pro with Guest User.
If you’d like to share your feedback with Apple to help improve Persona, go to Settings > Persona, then tap Provide Apple with Feedback.
