Improper replacement, improper handling of parts, or failure to follow the provided instructions may cause malfunctions. Additionally, wireless charging may appear slow or the iPhone may not charge properly. These events could result in injury, or damage to the device, parts, or other property.
Wearing heat-resistant gloves to perform this procedure is recommended.

Adjustable heated display pocket
Caution: Ensure that you're using the correct heated display pocket for the model you're repairing to avoid damaging the iPhone.iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models: Use only version 3.0 with the star icon (661-52832).
iPhone 16 models and earlier: Use only version 2.0 (661-42667).
iPhone 12 and 13 mini: Use the model-specific version.
Heated display removal fixture
Note: Fixture may have a gray or white top.
Heat-resistant gloves
Note: Gloves may vary by region.
Nylon probe (black stick)
Repair tray (Refer to the Tools article for the model you're repairing or the Tools list in the relevant procedure.)
Important
Read Heated Display Removal Fixture if you’re setting up the fixture for the first time.
Ensure that the heated display removal fixture has the latest firmware version.
Complete the removal steps for the model you're repairing
Note: The images may show different versions of adjustable heated display pocket, heated display removal fixture, and iPhone model, but the procedure is the same for all models unless specified in the steps. Use the correct heated display pocket and repair tray for the model you're repairing.
iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models
Removal
Ensure that the bottom screws have been removed from the iPhone.
Flip the switch on the back of the heated display removal fixture to turn it on. The internal fan will turn on. Wait for a checkmark to appear on the screen.
Note: If an error code appears on the screen, turn off the fixture and turn it back on.
Gently insert the iPhone into the adjustable heated display pocket with the USB-C connector facing the bottom of the pocket. Turn the black knob on the pocket clockwise until the iPhone is loosely held in place. Ensure that the iPhone is centered between the brass bands.
- Caution
Don’t scratch the iPhone as you insert it into the pocket.
Don't turn the silver section on the pocket (shown in red in the image below). Turn only the black knob.
Ensure that you're using the pocket with the star icon.
Display positioning: Ensure that the rear camera is facedown.
Back glass positioning: Ensure that the rear camera is faceup.
Align the cutout on the bottom of the pocket with the rail on the fixture. Slide the pocket with the iPhone along the rail and into the fixture until you feel the pocket click into place.
Press the iPhone with three fingers while you turn the black knob clockwise to secure the iPhone in the pocket. Turn the black knob until it spins freely and the silver section stops turning.
- Caution: Don't turn the silver section on the pocket separately.
Ensure that the iPhone is centered between the brass bands and is flush with the pocket. If it's not flush, press the eject button on the side of the pocket to release the pocket from the fixture. Then repeat steps 4 through 6.
Note: The screen on the fixture will turn red and the timer will count down from 2 minutes while the pocket heats to the correct temperature. When the timer shows 0, the fixture will start to beep and the screen will turn green.

Back glass example
- Caution: To avoid damaging the iPhone, don't proceed to the next step before the timer shows 0, the fixture beeps, and the screen has turned green.
Turn the black knob on top of the fixture clockwise as shown to lower the suction cup as close to the iPhone as possible without touching the iPhone.
Note: The fixture will beep until the suction cup is lowered.
Grasp the handle and slide the suction cup straight out until the edge of the suction cup aligns close to the bottom edge of the glass (1). Turn the black knob on the fixture clockwise to lower the suction cup onto the back glass or display (2). Then flip down the handle on the suction cup to secure the suction cup to the back glass or display (3).
- Caution: Failure to align the edges of the suction cup and the back glass or display may damage the iPhone.
Slowly turn the black knob on the fixture counterclockwise until you feel tension and the back glass or display begins to separate from the enclosure. If you see a gap between the back glass or display and the enclosure, skip to step 10. If you don't see a gap immediately, wait 30 seconds. If you still don't see a gap after 30 seconds, turn the silver section on the knob on the fixture counterclockwise a quarter turn.
- Caution: Turn the silver section on the knob on the fixture only if you haven't seen a gap after waiting for 30 seconds.
Insert the edge of the adhesive cutter along the bottom edge of the iPhone between the back glass or display and the enclosure.
Run the cutter along the bottom edge only of the display or back glass and the enclosure until the glass partially releases from the enclosure.
- Caution: Don't cut around the edges of the iPhone.
Back glass only on iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max: Run the cutter along the bottom edge of the back glass and the enclosure until the glass partially releases from the enclosure. Then run the cutter along the right and left sides to further separate the back glass from the enclosure.
Flip up the handle to release the suction cup. Gently slide the flat end of the black stick under the edge of the suction cup to release it from the back glass or display.
- Caution: Don’t turn the knob on the fixture to release the suction cup. Turning the knob on the fixture will lift the back glass or display and may damage the flex cables.
Press the eject button on the side of the pocket to release the pocket from the fixture.
Hold both sides of the pocket and slide it straight out of the fixture.
Turn the black knob on the pocket counterclockwise until the pocket is fully open. Remove the iPhone from the pocket and place it in the model-specific repair tray with the rear camera faceup for back glass repair or facedown for display repair.
- Caution: Don’t scratch the iPhone as you remove it from the adjustable heated display pocket.
iPhone 16 models and earlier
Removal
Ensure that the bottom screws have been removed from the iPhone.
Flip the switch on the back of the heated display removal fixture to turn it on. The internal fan will turn on. Wait for a checkmark to appear on the screen.
Note: If an error code appears on the screen, turn off the fixture and turn it back on.
Take the iPhone out of the repair tray and gently insert it into the adjustable heated display pocket. Ensure that the camera is facedown for display repair or faceup for back glass repair and that the Lightning or USB-C connector faces the bottom of the pocket. Position the iPhone toward the lower right corner of the pocket. Place three fingers on the iPhone to hold it in position while you turn the knob at the bottom of the pocket clockwise to secure the iPhone. Ensure that the iPhone is centered between the brass bands and is flush with the pocket. If it's not, repeat this step.
- Caution
Don't scratch the iPhone as you insert it into the adjustable heated display pocket.
Only turn until the knob is finger tight. Don't overtighten the knob.
Display positioning
Back glass positioning
Put on the heat-resistant gloves. Align the cutout on the bottom of the pocket with the rail on the fixture. Slide the pocket with the iPhone along the rail and into the fixture until you feel the pocket click into place. Turn the knob again to ensure that the iPhone stays in the pocket.
Note: The screen on the fixture will turn red and the timer will count down from 2 minutes while the pocket heats to the correct temperature. When the timer shows 0, the fixture will start to beep and the screen will turn green.
- Caution: To avoid damaging the iPhone, don't proceed to the next step before the timer shows 0, the fixture beeps, and the screen has turned green.

- Caution: Turn the silver section on the knob only if you haven't seen a gap after waiting for 30 seconds.
Insert the edge of the adhesive cutter along the bottom edge of the iPhone between the back glass or display and the enclosure.
Run the cutter between the back glass or display and the enclosure to the right and left as shown until the glass partially releases from the enclosure.
- Caution: To avoid damaging the flex cables, don't tilt up the back glass or display more than 5 degrees.
Flip up the handle to release the suction cup. Gently slide the flat end of the black stick under the edge of the suction cup to release it from the back glass or display.
- Caution: Don’t turn the knob to release the suction cup. Turning the knob may damage the flex cables.
Press the eject button on the side of the pocket to release the pocket from the fixture.
Hold both sides of the pocket and slide it straight out of the fixture.
Remove the iPhone from the pocket and place it in the model-specific repair tray with the camera facing up for back glass repair or down for display repair. Remove the gloves.
- Caution: Don’t scratch the iPhone as you remove it from the adjustable heated display pocket.
