Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
6.1-inch repair tray
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
ESD-safe tweezers
JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver
Nitrile or lint-free gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Caution
Avoid touching the camera lenses, TrueDepth camera grounding springs, or nearby parts.
Important
If you replace this part, it is recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.
If the iPhone has an mmWave antenna, you’ll need to disconnect an extra flex cable. Check the side of the iPhone to determine if it has an mmWave antenna.
Removal
Caution
It is recommended to put on the gloves and cover the camera lenses to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.
Use the adjustable torque driver and JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver to remove the three crosshead screws from the camera cowling. Set aside the screws.
Caution: Avoid touching the camera lenses.
Lift the ends of the two camera flex cables off the connectors.
Important: If the iPhone has an mmWave antenna, lift the end of the mmWave antenna flex cable off the connector as shown with a dashed outline.
Use the black stick to loosen and separate the adhesive between the lower camera flex cable and the camera well. Then lift the camera and the camera flex cables out of the enclosure. Important: If the iPhone has an mmWave antenna, lift the mmWave antenna flex cable and place it slightly to the side before you remove the camera.
Caution: The mmWave antenna stays in the enclosure. Don’t remove it.
Reassembly
Important
A protective cover is included with a replacement camera. Leave the cover on while installing the new camera.
Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.
Inspect the grounding springs for damage before reassembly. Ensure that the grounding springs aren’t bent or broken.
Important: If the grounding spring is broken or bent, you may need to replace the camera.
Use ESD-safe tweezers to position the camera in the enclosure. Ensure that the camera flex cables are inside the channel between the battery and the camera well.
Important: If the iPhone has an mmWave antenna, position the mmWave antenna flex cable (1) and camera flex cables (2, 3) inside the channel between the battery and the camera well as shown.
Press the ends of the camera flex cables to the connectors.
Important: If the iPhone has an mmWave antenna, press the end of the mmWave antenna flex cable to the connector.
Set the torque on the adjustable torque driver to 13 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver to install three new crosshead screws (923-09822) into the camera.
Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
Important
Remove the protective cover from the replacement camera before you reinstall the back glass.
