Intro to profiles with Fleetsmith

Local and global profiles
In Fleetsmith, a profile is a collection of Custom Apps and settings used to configure your devices with ease. Profiles can be set, changed and assigned from the Fleetsmith Admin Console.
Fleetsmith accounts also contain the global profile, which is a collection of apps and settings at a top level and is applied to every device in your fleet.
Profile types and inheritance
All devices get the apps, settings, and operating systems applied to the global profile. In addition to the global profile—a device can be assigned to a specific profile. There are two ways to assign a specific profile:
Directly to a user (user-assigned profile): When a profile is assigned to a user, all of that user’s devices inherit that profile by default.
Directly to a device (device-assigned profile): When a profile is assigned directly to a device and the device’s profile, the profile assigned to the device take precedence (If the user and device are both assigned to a profile, only the device profile gets sent to the device. The user profile won’t be applied).
If the same app, setting, or operating system is added both to the global profile and to a specific profile—the specific profile takes precedence. The device receives the configured settings from the more specific profile instead of from the global profile.
If an app, setting, or operating system exists only in the global profile, that app, setting, or operating system is applied to all devices within a fleet.
