You can create a new transit card in the Wallet app to use on your iPhone or Apple Watch.

How to create a new transit card for your iPhone

  1. Open the Wallet app and tap the add button plus sign.
  2. Tap Continue. In China mainland, you might be required to create or update a 6-digit passcode.
  3. Tap [city name] Transit Card.
  4. Select an amount to put on your transit card. If you are using a China T-Union or Shanghai transit card, you might be charged an additional, 20 RMB refundable deposit.
  5. Follow the steps to create a new transit card on your iPhone.

How to create a new transit card for your Apple Watch

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Tap Add Card.
  4. Tap Continue. In China mainland, you might be required to create or update a 6-digit passcode.
  5. Tap [city name] Transit Card.
  6. Select an amount to put on your transit card. If you're using a China T-Union or Shanghai transit card, you will be charged an additional, 20 RMB refundable deposit.
  7. Follow the instructions to create a new card.

How to move your transit card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch

  1. On your iPhone, open the Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. If you have multiple watches, choose one.
  2. Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Scroll down to the transit card that you want to move to your Apple Watch.
  4. Next to the card, tap the Add button.

You can use the Watch app to move your transit card back to your iPhone. Do not move your transit card during a transit journey.

Make sure that you use the same device to start and end your transit journey. Unlike credit and debit cards in Wallet, transit cards can exist on only one device at a time.

What you need to create a new transit card

For iPhone, you need:3

  • An iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or later with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode set up
  • A China UnionPay credit or debit card that you've added to Wallet
  • The latest iOS version
  • An Internet connection
  • An Apple ID signed into iCloud
  • A device region set to China mainland

For Apple Watch, you need:

 

  1. Apple Pay isn't available for children under 13. Age varies by country or region.
  2. Check with your card issuer for information about transit cards you can add to Apple Pay.
  3. If you sign out of iCloud or turn off Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode on your iPhone or Apple Watch, all credit, debit, and transit cards are removed from that device. When you remove a transit card from any device, the remaining balance will be stored and available to be transferred to the same or another iPhone or Apple Watch that is connected to a network and signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  4. Apple Watch (1st generation) and Apple Watch Edition (1st generation) aren't compatible with Express Transit for Apple Pay in China mainland.
