Xsan 2 and Xsan 3: Some administrative operations require computers to be online
When using Xsan Admin with Xsan 2 or Xsan 3, some administrative operations can occur only when computers in the SAN are online. Learn which operations require client and metadata controller computers to be online.
Operations that require computers to be online
These operations require all Xsan client and metadata controller computers to be online:
Add or remove metadata controllers
Change the metadata network
Edit notifications settings
These operations require all Xsan metadata controller computers to be online:
Create volume
Destroy volume
Expand volume
Edit volume settings
Edit failover priority
Rename volume
Reinitialize volume
Add or remove client computers
Edit SAN properties (changing the metadata network also requires Xsan clients to be online)
Operations that are possible while computers are offline
In general, operations that affect a single computer in the SAN can be performed when other computers are offline. Examples:
Mount or unmount a volume
Check logs and graphs
Assign serial numbers on computers using Xsan 2.2 or earlier
