iMac with built-in iSight camera: Positioning the display when using the built-in iSight

If you want to showcase your smiling face in the best way possible, here's how to position your iMac with a built-in iSight camera for optimal video conferencing with iChat.

Lights...

To get the best picture, use a good light source in a well-lit room. See Use good lighting for the best iSight picture for more information on lighting.

Camera...

To set your display so that your built-in iSight has optimum framing for video conferencing, open iChat, then choose Video Preview from the Video menu. Look directly at the camera.

Position the top of the display at or slightly below eye level from your normal, ergonomically correct, seated position. (You may need to adjust the height of your display by raising or lowering your work surface.) See your iMac G5 (iSight) User Manual or Intel-based iMac User Guide for recommended ergonomic positioning.

Try to sit about 18 inches (48 cm) from the front of your display so the built-in iSight can best focus on you. From this position, tilt the display until your face is positioned satisfactorily in the iChat preview window. If you want, you can swivel the iMac left or right on its stand to capture your best side.

Action!

You're now ready to video conference with your iMac!
